Head & Neck Surgery and Conditions

At Phoenix Veterinary Surgical Specialists, we understand the critical nature of heart and neck health in pets. Our dedicated team of veterinary surgeons offers advanced surgeries and treatments designed to address a range of complex conditions. Our goal is to improve your pet’s quality of life through cutting-edge care and compassionate support.

Our Head & Neck Services Include:

Laryngeal paralysis

in dogs is a condition characterized by the partial or complete inability to abduct (open) the laryngeal cartilages during breathing. This leads to airway obstruction, respiratory distress, and other clinical signs. Laryngeal paralysis can be a serious and potentially life-threatening condition if left untreated. Surgical treatment involves a “laryngeal tieback” (unilateral arytenoid lateralization) to permanently open the airway and alleviate respiratory obstruction.

Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS)

in dogs refers to a collection of upper airway abnormalities commonly found in brachycephalic breeds such as Bulldogs, Pugs, and French Bulldogs. These abnormalities include stenotic nares, elongated soft palate, hypoplastic trachea, and everted laryngeal saccules, all of which can contribute to breathing difficulties and respiratory distress.

Total Ear Canal Ablation (TECA-LBO)

is a surgical procedure performed in dogs and cats to address chronic or severe ear canal diseases that cannot be effectively managed with medical treatment alone or for tumors in the ear canal. TECA-LBO involves the complete removal of the external ear canal as well as the lining of the middle ear structures.

Reconstructive surgery

in dogs and cats encompasses various techniques aimed at restoring form, function, and appearance following traumatic injuries, congenital abnormalities, tumor excision, or other conditions. Our surgeons are highly experienced in performing a wide range of reconstructive surgery techniques including free skin grafts, a multitude of skin flap techniques, tissue/skin expansion techniques and oral/maxillofacial reconstruction.

Wound Management and care

Dealing with severe wounds, chronic wounds, and non-healing wounds requires a multifaceted approach and specialized expertise. Our surgeons possess extensive experience in managing a spectrum of different wound types.
