ELECTROCHEMOTHERAPY

ELECTROCHEMOTHERAPY

Electrochemotherapy (ECT) is an advanced cancer treatment that combines chemotherapy with brief electrical pulses delivered directly to a tumor or surgical site. These pulses temporarily increase the permeability of cancer cells, allowing chemotherapy to enter the cells more effectively and significantly enhancing its tumor-killing effect with no systemic side effects.

PVSS has an IGEA and BioTex EPV300 Electroporator systems.

ECT can be used to treat certain tumors that are difficult to remove completely, to target microscopic cancer cells remaining after surgery (incomplete surgical scar margins), or to help control tumors when traditional surgery is not an ideal option. Because treatment is focused on the affected area, ECT can provide excellent local tumor control, while limiting exposure of the rest of the body to chemotherapy.

ECT therapy alone is often out-patient.

At Phoenix Veterinary Surgical Specialists, ECT may be incorporated into an individualized treatment plan based on your pet’s tumor type, location, and overall health.  Schedule an appointment to see if ECT is an option for your pet.
